FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Who provides the warranty?
The Classic Builders warranty is underwritten by Lloyd’s of London, the world’s leading specialist insurer, so it is fully independent and secure to give you complete peace of mind.
What does the warranty cover?
This warranty covers all defects for the first two years and major structural defects (INCLUDING weather tightness) for a further 8 years – that’s 10 years in total.
Because it covers defects in design, materials or workmanship, it means any major problem is likely to be covered.
The defects period begins from the date code of compliance is received and continues for two years.
What if I sell?
We have thought about your future beyond this house and if you sell your home, your warranty can be transferred to the new owner. This is certain to give potential buyers greater confidence when purchasing your home. There is a small administration cost of $100 to transfer your warranty.
Are my initial building payments safe?
If due to Insolvency Classic Builders either does not start the project or starts but fails to complete the project, the policy will indemnify you for the loss of deposit or the additional costs incurred to complete the project. The policy sub-limit is 15% of the contract price, maximum $200,000.
How long is the structural insurance period?
8 Years - For a further 8 years from the end of the defects insurance period the policy will pay to rectify major structural defects in the property, including weather-tightness issues.
Does the warranty keep pace with inflation?
Our policy is based on the full contract price and will be linked to the Statistics NZ Residential Building Price Index for new housing to ensure that your cover keeps pace with inflation (maximum of 5% p.a.).
Subject to the terms and conditions of the policy, a copy of which is available on request.
How do I make a claim?
We would hope you never have to make a claim but if you do, we want the process to be easy and seamless for you. All you need to do is contact Classic Builders in the first instance and they will work through to a solution with you.
Should you for some reason not be satisfied with the service you are getting from Classic Builders, you are able to contact Stamford Insurance directly.
